Once you reach Tier 7 (Crystal Pickaxe), shop purchases are no longer enough. The game introduces the Merge mechanic at Tiers 8 and 10.
To unlock the Crystal Pickaxe II (Tier 8), you cannot buy it. You must own one Crystal Pickaxe, buy a second one for $350,000, and merge them in the crafting forge.
